10x10 Shed Plans - Gambrel Shed | HowToSpecialist - How to Build, Step by Step DIY Plans (1)

This step by step diy woodworking project is about 10x10 barn shed plans. This compact storage shed features a gambrel shed with a small loft. If you want to create storage space efficiently, this project is ideal for your backyard. Remember that you need to read the local building codes before starting the construction, so you comply with the legal requirements. See my other shed plans HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a 10×10 barn shed

The first step of the project is to build the floor for the shed. As you can easily notice in the diagram, you need to use 2×6 lumber for the floor frame. Cut the joists at the right dimensions and then lay them on a level surface. Drill pilot holes through the rim joists and then insert 3 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular components.

Select the location for the shed and then compact a layer of gravel. Make sure the surface is perfectly level and then attach the 6×6 skids. Use rafter ties or screws to lock the skids to the floor frame tightly.

Front wall – frame

Next, build the front wall frame. You need to use 2×4 lumber for the studs and plates, while the double header is made from 2×6 lumber and 1/2″ plywood. Drill pilot holes through the 2×6 beams and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the plywood, on both sides of the double header. Toenail the header to the front of the wall frame, as shown in the free plans. You can adjust the height of the wall frames so it suits your needs. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the studs .

Assembling the shed frame

After assembling the 4 wall frames you need to lift and lay them over the floor. Align the edges flush and use a spirit level to make sure the wall frames are plumb. Drill pilot holes through the bottom plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the floor. Moreover, you need to lock the adjacent walls together tightly by using 3 1/2″ screws.
